Car Photoshoot

A couple of our friends have some nice rides and they wanted some photos of them. In addition to capturing some fantastic shots, both stationary and rolling, we also had a great time teaching the boys how to use a reflector!

In the process we found a great new location with a ton of graffiti, and a nice quite street where you can have 2 cars driving side by side to get some action shots. All in all, it was a great Sunday afternoon spending some time with the boys and their toys ;)

Enjoy the shots!

Dragon Boat Festival

This past weekend was the 21st Annual Rio Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat Festival. There was a lot going on, lots of vendors, sponsor displays, music performers, paddles, life-jackets and enthusiastic competitors. We couldn’t miss the opportunity to capture some of this. The weather cooperated and provided us with a really cool sky to complement the chaos of the festival. It did start raining towards the end, but that’s what a local Starbucks is for, to go and hide with a nice drink in your hand. Here are some of the shots from the festival!

Vancouver Aquarium

It was a Father’s Day Weekend, so we decided to take my dad, mom and grandma to the Aquarium. We had lots of fun observing all the big and little marine creatures, especially the brand new baby beluga! Our cameras were with us as usual, and even though this meant that we lost each other a couple of times because we were each taking the time to compose our shots, we got some nice photos! I love the vivid colours that we were able to find within the aquarium. Here are a couple of shots for you to enjoy.

Update: Elinchrom Skyports

Just thought I’d post a quick update to Skyport triggers. Shipping from Vistek was reasonably fast, taking about 5 days (over the weekend). I had ordered the universal kit, with one trigger and one receiver and the packaging actually included the hard shell case (contrary to some posts online and also contrariety to my inquiry with Vistek sales themselves!. I have a 580 EX II flash, and out of the box, the included cables don’t fit. The kit includes a PC sync cable to a 2.5mm jack, however the receiver unit takes a 3.5mm jack. A quick stop into The Source Circuit City resulted in a solution that cost me a total of 96c + tax! They had a 2.5mm to 3.5mm converter plug, and for some reason these were on clearance (unfortunately they only had the one left!). So my connection problems were solved.. or so I thought!.. It turned out the PC sync part of the cable wasn’t making proper contact with the 580’s socket. I basically needed to “apply pressure” on the connection to ensure a contact was made in order to trigger the flash. Obviously I needed a better solution, and thus turned to FlashZebra.com. I ordered a PC Sync “lock” cable and received it about a week later. The cable provided a 100% reliable solution, and on closer inspection, it looks like the inner pin of the connection is somewhat quite a bit larger (thus meaning it fit more snuggly) and on top of that the screw lock ensured it wouldn’t come loose!. Now to start playing with some creative off camera flash!

Location was up at Queen Elizabeth Park, and we were very fortunate with the weather as it turned out perfect! being Vancouver, it was always forecasted to rain, but the weather gods held off for us!
